Many parents and friends subconsciously feel that opening the capsule lid is more conducive to absorption. In fact, the medicines in capsules are generally powders or granules that are irritating to the mucous membrane of the oesophagus and stomach, or that are unpleasant to the palate, volatile, easily decomposed by saliva in the mouth, and easily inhaled into the airways. These medicines are encapsulated to protect the medicinal properties of the medicine from being destroyed and also to protect the digestive organs and the respiratory tract. Removing the capsule shell may result in drug loss, drug wastage and reduced efficacy. In addition, some drugs need to be dissolved and absorbed in the intestine and the capsule protects the drug from being destroyed by stomach acid. Pharmaceutically, it refers to capsules made of special film-forming materials (e.g. gelatin, cellulose, polysaccharides, etc.) into which the contents (e.g. powdered, liquid types of drugs, etc.) or by dose are packed for easy swallowing. {The above information is from Baidu Encyclopedia}

There are 5 classifications of capsules
Hard capsules, soft capsules (pellets), extended release capsules, controlled

(3)Extended Release Capsules:Refers to capsules that release the drug slowly
and at a non-constant rate in a defined release medium.
